One would think that the scrapings get published to have some profit purpose and those get scraped by other bots

Hmmm being followed all over the net...... sounds like your browser is leaky or the system isn't secure enough. I every once and a while get my wife's wanderings because she leaks like a sieve from pre loaded standard google / Microsoft software and my router shares ISP data between us

No doubt. That's why I tend to behave myself on Internet. I liked Brave under Mac OS, but for financial (and now also ideological) reasons I'm now on the Raspberry Pi. Either Raspian OS or Ubuntu*, running Chromium. It's like Brave without the ad blocker. I looked at adding an ad blocker extension but was put off by something (I forget).

I looked at [the Wikipedia page and surprisingly there are 27 browsers using the Chromium code base, including Edge, Opera and Vivaldi.

In reference to my starting post, it looks like everyone else just had something else to do the last few days. Not being in the labor market, Labor Day meant less to me. But come November 11th, I can score a free meal at the VFW up Main Street.

*It's a long way from dual-boot. I have to shut down, pull the computer out of it's 3D printed wall bracket, and swap the Micro SD card (assuming I can find it )

Some of such bots might "lurk" around the forum due to Google searches from actual people who may not join for any random reason.

No doubt some of the 889 guests (as I type this) are real people that haven't joined the forum. However I suspect most of them are bots.

I'm running opera in all my android stuff, mostly ad free. Can you lock down your router?

I used to dual boot, but that got annoying because I forget which system I'm in and command syntax is wrong.

I rarely mention I am a Vet unless it saves me money with discounts. Obviously not a fun enlistment

Good question. That thing has run 24/7/52 for over a decade. I'd hate to jinx it.

If.it ran for a decade, it's maybe time for a newer version, one with some security and ad blocking.

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is?

It's an Actiontec PK5000 with 4 Ethernet ports and a firewall. I shall revisit the config screens to confirm the settings, but my preference would be to use it for the DSL modem and add another [$35] Raspberry Pi running Pi Hole.

Quote:
Pi-hole is a Linux network-level advertisement and Internet tracker blocking application which acts as a DNS sinkhole and optionally a DHCP server,... Pi-hole has the ability to block traditional website advertisements as well as advertisements in unconventional places, such as smart TVs and mobile operating system advertisements.

Half of my customers have this mindset. Hackers can't hack broken stuff, so that's a win I suppose.

My first contact with Opera was in an old Nokia C3-00.
