You basically just said, make sure you compare apples to apples. Which i've been preaching for 7 pages of this thread. Unfortunately, it will be some time before I can start testing or have results. First I am going to fully calibrate my mpguino, install cruise control, then have to pull both motors and then swap one back in.

I have to wonder what kind of wear a lighter fly wheel is going to cause to the transmision, yes I know that is not the exact topic of this thread but it is related to the topic.
The pulses of power that the fly wheel is evening out could be related to the pulses of power from an air impact wrench, the heavier the fly wheel the more consistent the speed of the crank shaft is going to be, that is also why clutch plates have springs, to even out those pulses to help protect the rest the drive train, that is also the idea behind a dual mass fly wheel as I understand it, to give a lighter fly wheel for a more responsive engine while evening out the pulses of power as much as possible.

When I removed the P/S,A/C and opened up the intake my engine idled easier but now has a tiny bit of a lope.....like the cam was swapped. Sounds nice. GOES LIKE A BAT OUT OF HADES! Gets good mpg too.
You do need some flywheel weight but not too much. I would give the 7 lb flywheel a try. You can always put the old one back in.

I'd love to see what happens with a ridiculously heavy flywheel. Could be interesting.

You Yankees sure do love to bicker I've noticed Live and let live seems to be a commodity exclusive to the south.

Honda put one of the lightest flywheels used on any D-series engine on the VX engine. Also did the same thing with the crank pulley... I wonder why?....

If it were me I'd go ahead with it. Those tricky Japs had a pretty good idea as to what the were doing.

With any performance upgrade the only loss in mpg is how you drive. Just like adding lrrt/lwr or a lw crank you're decreasing resistance of the output.
