Regular drivers just have no appreciation for the beauty of a perfectly timed light!

I just love it when I'm coasting to a red light and someone speeds past me and we both end up in exactly the same spot. And sometimes I'll be going five mph over the speed limit and people are still getting mad and passing me.

Better yet is when someone speeds past you and slams on their brakes at the red, only to have it turn green just as they come to a full stop - so you zip past them in the other lane accelerating from 20 mph or so :-)

Don't ask us that, ask them if good drivers ever get pissed at their erratic, shortsighted driving.

My favorite is when they fly past me at a red light and I pass them when it turns green.

There's a balance to be struck between extreme hypermiling and maintaining safety and traffic flow. I have less trouble with pulses & glides than when I used to maintain speed slightly below the speed limit (people hate that). Fortunately you can actually drive pretty quickly with pulses & glides and still get good numbers when you're familiar enough with the roads you're on and what the lights are doing.
By monitoring what's going on behind us we can get a idea as to what speed must be maintained to prevent pandemonium. On a 45 MPH road with a large pack of cars behind me, I'll glide down to 35 MPH and pulse to 55 MPH if there's room ahead to glide back down to 30 or below if a slowdown is required. Most people seem to be okay with that. If no one is behind then I can bust out the crazy stuff like rolling down to 20 on a 45 (if I'm not running late for work ).

Keeping up with traffic gives you a draft. With a brick like a Fit, keeping up with the car in front of you and making the car behind you not mind being there lets you carry a lot more speed without an aero penalty.

Coasting to a red light once just by my home and some older guy in a small pickup passes me (1 lane, solid no-pass lines to boot!) and flips me off. As soon as he gets in front of me, he has to hit the brakes because he's now at said red light, stopped, in front of me. I just LOL'd (and made sure he could hear me).
Some people...

Yes, people get annoyed sometimes. I try to drive a little faster for them, if they cannot get around me. I also limit my pulse and glides. Lastly, I'll switch lanes to let other cars by me. It is a kind of like reverse weaving between traffic: speeders weave to to pass slower cars, but I weave to be passed by faster cars.In the end though, speed limits and other laws are rules none have a right to require me to break. If they get mad, they can take it up with a cop.
