Are drive-ins experiencing a temporary resurgence?

The cars need to park 6' apart?

There is one drive-in left in the Phoenix area and they are currently going strong. Four more drive-ins have popped up recently with various arrangements. One farm that does events says they cannot advertise the name of the movie before people buy their ticket, but people can find someone to buy their spot on Facebook.

Can the first people to buy tickets announce what movie is showing?

Amid COVID-19, drive-in movies are popping up around the Valley

Quote:
[A]s of April 18, fewer than 25 of the approximately 320 drive-ins across the country remained open.
Las Vegas Drive-In selling tickets for Thursday night They own the drive-in in Phoenix and also reopened their location in Sacramento, but their other locations remain closed.

Indiana: Plymouth drive-in opening for the season starting Friday

Quote:
Last week, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he was considering allowing drive-ins to reopen, as regular theaters stay shut amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Drive-in movie theaters poised for a comeback amid coronavirus crisis

I heard of theaters showing movies in the parking lot, but none of those articles mentioned it, and I did not see other articles.

Weird. I specifically searched for it and found restaurants doing it, including in Arizona: Restaurants Are Turning Their Parking Lots into Drive-In Movie Theaters

A drive-in opened up on North Carolina was shut down for violating the stay-at-home order and being a non-essential business:

Show Low has a 5-screen theater with a small parking lot:
They could show to five or ten vehicles on each side?

There is an eight-screen theater half an hour away:
That could show to a couple dozen vehicles on each side. That theater also has a couple of restaurants in the parking lot, unlike in Show Low, which just has a gas station across the street.

Our old Kmart has a big and empty parking lot with an Arby's on the far corner [and a Safeway on the other side]:
What I really like is that the parking lot slopes towards the building.

Using Google's scale [bottom-right corner], it looks like the main parking area is about 320 x 190.

You could fit about 100 vehicles in there, maybe more, with 10' in between, if you could get permission, equipment, and enough people who want to watch the same movie.

Then I charge myself an exorbitant amount to pick up litter?

Bathrooms.

There is really no solution to bathrooms. Rent a bathroom trailer and have a restroom guard that only allows one family at a time and sprays down all of the surfaces between families?

Where would I get the Lysol? I could use RV toilet paper.

Would $2 1L bottles of soda finance that?

Drive ins have historically have been a good place to catch something that has a 9 month incubation period and stays with you the rest of your life.

I'd be a dream to operate a drive in.

...shoot, just looked and found out the one in Dallas (Oregon) closed in 2016. I could have bought it!

Maybe I should buy an inflatable projector screen and do some showings out in the neighborhood park. I've already got the sweet projector. Next time I'm in the park I'll look for the nearest electrical outlet.

I spent another couple of hours researching. It sounds like it is a pain to get licenses to show movies for free, let alone charge admission.

...and no effort at all to not bother with bureaucracy.

If the state would like to give me free food and shelter for being neighborly, I invite them to.

A couple of people talked about using a Prius to power the show. Plenty of people said "Just buy a generator!"

Every generator that I have heard was way louder than a Prius.

Zillow estimates that the townhouse that I tried to buy in 2012 for $94,500 (that was valued at $79,000) is now worth $172,747. The mortgage would have been $450 a month, but now it would be $823 if I put $0 down with a VA loan.

It sold on 1/13/2017 for $126,000 and on 7/10/2017 for $125,000.

It sold for $1,000 less, but how much did they lose in realtor fees?

Standard realtor fee is 6%, finance charge is a blanket 1.5% plus origination fee, title company fee, a fee for charging all the fees, plus a few other fees.
Buying a house that expensive you can expect up to $10,000.
We prearranged our last sale, no realtor fees, think the total cost in fees was around $6,000 on $192,000. After we paid a realtor $500 to do a bunch of paperwork she said she would have gotten $220,000 for our place.

Real drive-ins have berms to park on (most cars don't have air-bag suspensions). The speakers on posts would be optional today. Not linking to Facespook, but here's DDG with the goods.

The 99W Drive-in is a single screen drive-in theater located in Newberg, Oregon. It is open seasonally from Spring thru March. Check here for more info such as driving directions, admission prices, rules for visiting, and more.
The 'open seasonally' part is odd because IIRC Spring starts in March.

I rarely care what people said they would have done. "What?! No! I wasn't going to steal all of your money and run off with your wife and daughter! I promise!"

People talking about setting up drive-ins usually say to use an FM transmitter, but some people ask "Why? Just get speakers that will get you shut down for a noise complaint!"

Obviously you need to invite the police and provide complimentary donuts!

Bluetooth?

If I'd ever built a VW Beetle show car it would've had a reverse-alligator hood with a 3ft flat screen in it facing the windshield.
