Just replace the word "safety" in the quote with the word "discount". That's the 'bait' - just as "safety" (or security) was the 'bait' when Franklin cautioned against it.

Loss of liberty (and privacy) is being touted by an insurance company under the guise of promoting "safety". Just as mandatory insurance was. I'm not surprised that the company calls itself "Progressive".

Participants will have second thoughts about the program when the subjective data gathered from them is misinterpreted (by and for the benefit of the issuing company, resulting in them raising your rate) with no right of appeal. And the data harvested becomes your ineradicable, recorded 'history'.

What begins as voluntary, often becomes mandatory. The only thing worse than involuntary servitude is voluntary servitude.

I think I will wait for the mandatory drivers brain implants, which will be required for every citizen of Oceania by 2014.

Why bother with all of those plugs and cords anyway.

Hope the sheep line up for the discount, resistance is futile...

Never thought I would see the day where people freely give away hard fought for liberties.

Since this device plugs into the OBD II port what are we going to do with our Scan Gauges and Ultra Gauges? They would probably wonder how I continually drive on roads without stop signs, since I've got a bad habit of using rolling stops. That would probably be the thing that would incriminate me.

There's a similar black box scheme being tested around here as well.

It's GPS-based, comparing actual speed versus the database with known speed limits.
It doesn't send exact data about where you are or go (or so they say) just data about the speed zones and general region you're driving in.

I never thought I would see the day when people would regularly pay $1+ for a plastic bottle of tap water...

The first thing I though was: It won't save me money because I can't plug in my SGII.
