only on true "bus" protocols such as VPW, PWM, or CAN. ISO vehicles do not use a bus architecture and therefore the messages from the two scan tools will clash.

The trip data is transmitted to Progressive through a cell phone connection and has the same potential lose signal. They seem to allow for a few days of amnesty before they call.

I've had about 4 of Progressive's Snapshot (MyRate) devices plugged into my Buick over the last few years. I think because I've gone through so many, they no longer call me to reset it AND I still get the discount .

Also note - participation can only lower your rate.
(I'd link to the Progressive Snapshot FAQ page, but I'm a lurker.)

I now see that only high-risk drivers in Kansas and Rhode Island could see an increase of up to 9% in their premiums. Is that what you're talking about?

Equal coverage on my car-
Alfa-$1180 year
Progressive- $2900 year

So what if you can save 30%. You can save lots more than that by going with a different insurer.

Oh, motorcycles don't have an OBD port, thank God!

Sure, by what they determine are "high risk" drivers. Insurance is supposed to be about pooling risk; the more they individualize rates, the more it will cost for all of us.

I pay about $120/6 mo for the car (+ $100/yr for the bike); $240/yr x .7 = $168.

I've insurance shopped all over the place. Nobody else has ever even come close. Not even.

Yeah, I'll try it out.

So this "voluntary" program could be argued to be de facto compulsory.

The sad part is these type of policies were written about 10 years ago and possibly more, in that entities closely tied with the government would slowly get people used to being watched more carefully and slowly remove rights until the government/banking industry could chip people with your credit info right in your arm. They already are moving to have your phone be your credit card & bank with a uid. Public radio & even 60 minutes have been talking about being chipped (in your body) for this purpose because it would be convient and your loved ones would always know where you were. SIC There already is a so called child UID marketed so parents can locate their kids (and assumably anyone else)

The amount people are willing to give up just because they think it is easy or safe is quite amazing. Hopefully people start fighting this crap, we don't want to live in Hitlers Germany where you have to go through checkpoints and be badgered potentially every day for rather unimportant reasons.
