I've never had a company ask about modifications, though I suppose it depends on whether you carry C&C insurance, or just liability, as I do. I wouldn't carry C&C unless I had to because of a car loan, and wouldn't buy a car that I had to borrow money to buy - and if I did have that sort of money in a car, I'd be pretty reluctant to start hacking away at it :-)

Considering the practically nonexistant blue book value for a 17 year economy car with almost 500,000 miles on it, I don't carry collision or comprehensive on it, and even if I did, the $150 repair cost for rebuilding the boattail wouldn't even have met the deductable.

My wife wants me to get C&C on the mirage.
Its not worth it.
The car was Free...and if anybody hit me the insurance pay out would probably be enough to do the manual transmission swap I am hoping for.

My truck's lowered 4" in front and 6" in back, even had to cut the frame to get it that low. The insurance company still considers it stock.

I read something once from State Farm (in the standard booklet they give you every time you renew). It basically does not want your car to go faster than stock. I keep PLPD too, but I would not expect to be covered the same if I were to swap a 4.9 Caddy V8 into my car (which can be done with little modification).

Geico only asks if there's any permanent, non-removable modifications to the vehicle.

None yet

Only thing I can think of being non removable is frame cuts of chop tops.

Everything else can be put back to stock before the adjuster comes to look at the vehicle a week later.

Better efficiency is a significant addition of performance.

I have never been asked about mods by my insurance company, on my fuel efficient car or my high performance car.

The primary issue is damage to the other guy, if you get in a collision and are at fault. unless your car is very new a insurance claim will not get you much, because the will only give you fair market value.

If you don't have collision, and your at fault, you won't get anything.

I'd just stick to it's a stock model. anything else and the agents don't have a clue, so they charge more. Go figure.

Don't lie, but don't give them any more information than you absolutely have to. They won't know what to do with it, so they will just charge you more. Any mods you make are temporary trials, anyway. Your not going into production.
