Heh... Well... Never say you can't use spammers for anything... At least they are good for spawning discussions...

Nice. Your beginner welding is way better than my beginner welding!

That's using a friend's welder. It is BIG and POWERFUL.
It allows me to make mistakes MUCH faster.....
But that's how we learn.

And were you using the inert gas attachment too?
(PS - helps to be welding on nice, fresh, mild steel. Seems like everything I try to weld is rusted )

Yep, this friend's welder has the gas bottle on it. So nice not to have to chip off the slag afterwards.
It's all part of a tool co-op/shared workshop called the Milwaukee Makerspace.
There are places like this popping up all over.
I don't have any room in my garage for working on projects, so it's nice to have access to both space and equipment. Not that I HAVEN'T built EVs in my driveway before, but this is so much nicer. (Too bad it's not so close to my house )
Here's more info on the Makerspace for anyone interested.

I agree with Darin, the welds look nice! Can't wait to see the rest of it. Its really coming together nicely. Have you figured out how you're doing the top piece yet?

I'm at the Makerspace right now.
Not having a good day. I cut all the pieces for the top, then realized the top of the battery is just a tiny bit LARGER than the bottom of the battery, and that none of it fits at all!
On the fancy belt sander, I just broke a belt, and realized all the replacement belts are a different size!
I might do something different for the top of the battery rack now.

How much bigger is the battery? Surely not so large that you cant adjust the pieces and full the gaps with weld?
Then again, even your wasted materials could be used by another maker, right?

As long as the middle rack is secured to the frame, all the top rack needs to do is hold the batteries down...
