Electric RIVIAN R1T 'Truck of the Year'

In the latest MOTOR TREND, they've chosen RIVIAN's R1T for 2022.
$ 74,075 base price
133-kWh usable
EPA Combined 70-mpg-e
4.48571-gallons-e ( according to EPA math )
EPA HWY- 66 mpg
EPA HWY range- 296-miles
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The $ 79,490, 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor has 71.7-miles HWY range on Rivian 'pack'
The Raptor would need 548.6-kWh pack to equal RIVIAN range.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The $ 110,295, 2022 HUMMER will get 192.8-miles HWY range on RIVIAN pack.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Mercedes-Benz new aero special would see 798-miles range.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 2014 Spirit of EcoModder, as an EV, as driven, is estimated at 681-miles.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PS ' I can't afford a home 'cause I drive four of them!' F-150 Raptor owner

The Cybertruck as shown original prototype would get between Raptor and Hummer on the Rivian pack. Probably about 135 miles.

RIVIAN pack

I've never seen any technical data for the RIVIAN, other than it's Curb Weight.
I could guestimate its frontal area.
They don't publish a drag coefficient so far.
Inverter efficiency ditto.
Motor efficiency ditto.
I'll leave charging efficiency for a different examination ( no one speaks of well-to-wheel efficiency of ICE vehicles ).
A single-speed trans would be approx, 98% mechanical efficiency.
If we knew it's aero, we could reverse-engineer its rolling resistance from its Wh/mile consumption, at, say, 100-km/hour.
Then we'd have its road load.
Then we could reverse-engineer its brake-horsepower -e.
So far, it's like we're expected to buy a home without knowing its square footage, or whether it has any insulation in the floor, walls, or ceiling.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For CYBERTRUCK we'd need it's actual:
Cd
Frontal area @ 8-inch ground clearance, with mirrors
EPA test weight
Inverter efficiency
Whether it has the 'RAVEN' motor or not
It's transmission will be 98% efficient
Actual Wh/ mi at a given velocity
If it came in at Cd 0.31,Tesla's shape would give CYBERTRUCK a distinct advantage over all the other EV pickups on the HWY. Something which appears to escape many auto journalist, when they refer to it as a 'science fiction movie prop.'
AeroStealth owned an F-150 Brett Herndon 'Cybertruck' in 2014, and after conducting road tests in West Texas, I can tell you firsthand that, there's not another EV pickup that will be able to touch Tesla on the highway. Love it, or hate it, 'shape' IS the secret sauce.

Rivian aero

https://www.motormatchup.com/catalog...tion-(135-kWh)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, Cd 0.30 is attributed to the R1T. [ reduced grille opening, Unibody (gapless body ), full belly pan, modest side mirrors, full tonneau cover , plan-camber ]
@ 85.5 % of gross frontal area, Af = approx. 35.212-sq-ft.
CdA approx. 10.563-sq-ft
It will be very interesting to see a final Cd for CYBERTRUCK.

I mean... have they even produced one yet yet? Not sure how you can call it truck of the year if it's not even an actual product.

So is the Arcimoto Flatbed. That would be my choice.

We had 'trucks' in Thailand not much bigger, and very useful! Glad they're still in the game.

I think Rivian has delivered something like 60 trucks.

The problem with the Cybertruck as shown is it was running 35" mud tires more aggressive than the Raptor wears and that's what takes it down to it's terrible MPG, a 20% penalty over a standard 3.5 F150 4x4. The 37" tire Rapor loses 2 more mpg highway over the 35" Raptor. If the Cybertruck try's to play that game it's going to never get the 500 mile range they were spinning.

These guys got .48 cd for the Cybertruck. Still without mirrors or wipers which it will have. https://airshaper.com/cases/tesla-cy...k-aerodynamics

If I had a tire company, I'd have hybrid mudders. The shoulder and sides of the tire would be chunky, and the center would be highway optimized. You'd get a little traction in the mud when the tires sink in, but otherwise they are long wearing street tires. Mostly people could look cool while having a fairly efficient and long wearing tire.
