I'll get mine for $6500 because of the original 50% bonus plus the commitment to buy. This new commitment to buy (which isn't mandatory) is all about making a waterproof application for the ATVM loan. Which the government will have difficulty denying... and rightly so, because the Elio is exactly the type of vehicle the ATVM claims to be meant for. Lawsuits may be coming.
The traditional automakers would hate it if Elio got the loan, so how much of this is politics?

I think it's silly how everyone flaggillates over price and mpg on a car that isn't for sale.
Oh Elio has failed because the price is higher.
Oh they've failed cause the mpg is lower.
I find all this to be totally irrelevant.
If Elio comes to market, guess what.
It likely won't affect car companies, but it will affect the used car market.
I just wish they would get off the pot.

My flaggilliations over the price and mpg claims are because they are dishonest business practices. It like you say, there is no car, there should be no price or MPG advertising. A press release saying the goals would be fine, but Elio is straight up advertising. They may not be selling a car yet, but they are selling stock and selling places in line. The 2 biggest things you see in their advertising is the MPG claim and the price claim. Actually start making deliveries of $6800 cars that get 84 mpg and you won't need any pre-orders or government grants. The full price deposits will pour in like a flood even if it takes years to get a car at that point.

Round 9 since 2007. Sad, but expected by me at least. Many similar 3-wheelers have appeared since 2007. Jalopnik nailed it... again.

Even if they never ship product, we'll always have the commercial:
Via The Onion, it conforms to hersbird's 'claims' criteria.

The actually added a new claim (at least new for me to mock) "comfortable seating for two." I would say a first gen Insight is barely comfortable seating for two. I'm sure the Elio is better then a Goldwing or maybe Pa's wagon on Little House on the Prairie, but I would have to try the back seat to see how comfortable it felt. Even the commercial makes it seem like the back seat must be worth fighting over NOT being in.

Somewhere waay upthread someone wrote about getting to sit in one. My impression is plenty of head and elbow room; not much in the way of sightlines.

I think Elio spent his time focused on the wrong details.
But I'll bet he's got a nice office.

I am 6'-4" and I fit in the backseat of the P4 Elio. My headroom was tight, but they claimed the P5 would be better. Getting in and out was easier than most 2 door car.
The front seat is enormous.
