The car is so possible it's silly. The way Elio is going about (not) producing it makes it seem that this isn't actually about producing a car.
He says they're 87% there parts-wise and 98% there price-wise. He's sacrificing 100% of actual results to chase that 13% and 2% of hypothetical results. As if charging $500 over the marketing hype for a car that's only EPA rated at 81 mpg is worse than not selling any cars.

Agreed 100%. And seriously, why would any intelligent person try to make the perfect car? What would they sell next year? (Then again, the most intelligent person would sell nothing and still make money...so...)
I still have confidence! ALMOST enough to donate. Almost.

Dear Paul,
Quit effing around and make my car already, dammit! Even if it does look like an angry koi from the front . . . . .
Love,
Cow

But the other things are from companies that produce items for sale. That's got a pracicality all its own.

My boss says that it took nine months to open his bakery. Elio can start shipping cars in less time than that?

On the video from the Verge the test driver said that the car would ship in 2016! He also said that the test car he was driving had a 3 cylinder engine but was was limited to 35 MPH (idk why). No real specifics on the engine though.

That sounds odd. I knew such low speeds are a standard for neighborhood-electric vehicles and a few other cars in order to make them qualify for some less stringent safety regulations.

I suppose speed speed governing is one way to get to 81MPG.
