Hello
I am the guy that blew up the trans on a dyno. No nitrous I just made a full throttle pull then shut off the engine to talk to the dyno operator and the rear wheel locked up .
After taking the engine apart I found the fifth gear sprocket welded to the shaft. I have made hundreds of pulls since that unfortunate incident and not had a problem.

As for doing it on the road . I believe the aero drag will slow you down and you may not have any problem . Personally I would not do it. First there is the danger of damage to the unlubricated parts of the trans . Second If you just went up a hill. Then shut off the engine .the cooling will stop .The oil in the top of the engine will start to boil and there could be a chance of cooking the oil . Maybe not, but for my money Idling down the hill may be safer..

Hi Racer X, welcome to ecomodder!

Can you clarify one thing? You mentioned that "you couldn't find neutral". When you killed the engine at 90mph, with no aero penalty as you noted, did you just pull in the clutch and hold it? Or did you dig down into neutral? Or did you add a neutral detent under top gear maybe?
