The Fiat 500e is supposed to return in 2024--for $22,000
Quote:
The announcement is a real U-turn, as Fiat had pulled the 500 from North America in 2020, due to very disappointing sales just nine years after its return. Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of Fiat Chrysler who died in 2018, is known to have repeatedly complained that the group was losing up to $14,000 each time it sold a Fiat 500 to a North American consumer.

Stellantis did not give further details except to say that the vehicle will arrive in showrooms in North America in 2024. But the Fiat 500e is already sold in Europe where it is one of the most popular electric vehicle models. Its price really helps to seduce consumers. It sells for around 21,000 euros ($21,500), after incentives.

The Fiat 500e that will be sold in the United States will be imported from Italy, offering 162 lb-ft of torque. The company hasn't provided details about the rest of the U.S. specs. They may be similar to what is offered in European markets: two battery packs and a 117 horsepower engine. Autonomy, on the other hand, is likely to differ. In Europe, the Fiat 500e can travel 199 miles on a single charge. But it's more than likely to be a lot less in the US, at 150 miles.

The 500e always had a range problem and a few proprietary parts that broke all the time.
Being a compliance car didn’t help matters.
Sort of like a street legal version of the Kandi k27

The article says when it is available nobody will have an excuse for not buying an EV.
I don't want a Fiat and I buy $4,000 Japanese cars that are reliable for years.

They'll have the same excuse as not buying the previous e-Fiat. It sucks.

Kudos for hitting that pricepoint though. That's $3,000 less than a base Honda Civic.

It won't hit that pricepoint. Either it flat out won't, or it factors in subsidies to achieve that number.
EDIT: Nevermind, Xist even quoted the part that said the price is after someone else's money is factored in. It's closer to $30k, and is a small, short range EV. You've been able to get the Chevy Bolt with more range since 2016 for that price or less, and it has a 250 mile range and acceleration that doesn't suck.

It's actually quite surprising to me the 500e is not yet available there. Even in Brazil at least since 2021 it's available.

It was available here, I remember when you pick up a used one for under $6000. The sales just got poor and it was pulled. Why the sales were bad is the question. I thought my 16 year old daughter might like the styling so I asked her if she liked it when we saw one and she definitely did not. If that style didn't appeal to a 16yo girl I don't know who they are targeting.
I agree it will struggle again next to the Bolt and big Bolt. I priced the bigger Bolt EUV and they had one for $30,000 sitting on the lot and it had $2500 worth of options. After Jan 1st that will qualify for at least a $3750 credit if not $7500. Seems a lot better than a 500e.

That was the previous generation, not the current one which is available only in EV form.

As I have no clue about your daughter's preferences, or yours which could eventually also influence her taste for cars, but maybe some European or Japanese girl would disagree with her. Maybe an American-born daughter of immigrants can also have a more favorable opinion about the 500e too. I'm sure Fiat only kept it on the catalog there for some bureaucratic compliance.
