DOE agrees. They estimate a light duty EV will consume 3,800 kWh per year

Japanese don't commute by car. I used to work for a Japanese transmission supplier and visited the Osaka headquarters often. That factory with about 1,000 employees had 20 parking spaces. One of the benefits of excellent public transit.

To some categories such as trucks and SUVs, that $5000 fine for missing the CAFE standards is easier to assimilate into the retail price than for a compact car. And even in other countries where such regulation doesn't apply, many folks perceive SUVs to have a higher "added value" than a station-wagon or a sedan, even if they're based on the same underpinnings.

That's a 2-seater electric, too restricted when it comes to top speed, so it's not suitable to address the versatility requirement for a car which might often be the only one at a household from my perspective as a conservative Latino who grew up surrounded by smaller cars in a country where the car market matured more influenced by the Volkswagen Beetle than by the American landyachts of the postwar.
