it is not necessarily the compressor that is inaccurate it is the hose that causes the issue. having a regulator at the end of the air hose will be more accurate. I use one very similar to this. Tire Inflator w/ Dial Gauge
I also have this one same brand but my button is in a different spot to relieve air.
Moroso 89560 - Moroso Tire Pressure Gauges - Overview - SummitRacing.com

After each use I drain my air tank of water to make sure not putting it into the tire. If you don't have a large compressor and rely on a shop to getting your air I would suggest a small portable compressor like mentioned already.

to see if it is accurate I use my wifes Cadillac with the tpms the on board computer tells you tire pressure. Comparing that to the moroso and the in line gauge it is within 1 lbs of the in car monitor when cold.

Look at summit racing they have tons of gauges 197 is what I got in my search

I'm now the proud owner of 3...yes...three...el cheapo dial type tire pressure gauges.

Amazon.com: TEKTON by MIT 5938 Dial Tire Gauge - 100 PSI: Home Improvement

Had to glue the rubber gasket into it...bezel is glass...domed and too likely to get cracked...only paid $7 though. Reads at 42 PSI.

Amazon.com: 4X4 Accu-gage: Automotive

Larger and bulky...but easy to use. Has a rubber shield on the dial. Reads at 41 PSI. I paid ~$7.

Buy Victor Tire Gauge with Bleeder - Dial - Mini 22-5-60023-8 at Advance Auto Parts

Probably the best of the 3...has a case. Reads at 42 PSI. On sale for $5.

ALL of these have a release button so you can remove them from the tire and see the pressure.

Best bet? Buy 2 of the last one and make sure they agree and agree with a Master gauge. When one shows an off reading...buy another?

Looks like a pretty good solution. Might do that plus a bike pump.

get a digital gauge. i've never had one in good working order be off by more than +/- 1psi. that being said, cheap, $10 or less / walmart gauges... dont stay in good working order long term, i've had one give wacky readings after being dropped about 4', and i've smoked one after getting it in water less than 1/4" deep

i've been using a matco DT100 gauge for about 2yrs now, been dropped, soaked and im sure ive checked over 1000 tires since ive had it and no trouble. only $28 on thier site Vehicle Service, Wheel & Brake | Matco Tools Online Tool Catalog
