Fisker Karma serial hybrid

I hadn't heard of it before,

But here is a little info on the Fisker Karma.

Apparently, it is going to have "engine noise" speakers built into it. Interesting idea, not sure if I like it or not.

I have threatened to put an iPod on my motorcycle to play motorcycle engine noise for smart-alecs.

Since Fisker physically bases their cars off of mainstream automobiles (BMW 6-series and others), I wonder if this is a clean-sheet, totally proprietary design.

I'm not really a fan of performance electric cars, despite their beauty. I suppose they are useful for publicity, but it's the equivalent of a biodiesel Hummer.

The world looks super green when you're accelerating from 0-60mph in 3.4sec...or pulling out of your soybean insulated 8500ft^2 mansion. The technology's awesome, though.

I guess I have to agree with LostCause.

Performance electric cars aren't exactly eco-friendly, but they do get people interested in electrics in general.

I think Hybrid cars are are like that in some ways too. They are a step in the right direction and get people thinking and more comfortable with doing things a little different.

I saw a 2012 version of this car yesterday in a parking lot here. The car so completely filled the spot that I wondered why someone would park such a car so close to the unwashed masses with our Civics and Fords. It's very much the luxury sports car... seems to be marketed for wealthy middle-aged, mid-life crisis types with a spiritual side to their conspicuous consumption. It is definitely a sign of changing times, that also stay the same. If only John DeLorean were around; he might have beaten GM. PS: I heard the owner talking later and for some reason saying he didn't have the range to get to San Fran from here... which is odd... since he should have a gasoline engine too.

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

I happened to see one of those things around the hospital where my wife works, and in the metal it is an imposing vehicle. For the money they want for it, it should fetch my paper, get my slippers and have a range close to what a gasser can do.

Justin Bieber has one with a polished body.

Really tells the truth about the market for the car.

what a piece of crap! saw the review on motorweek last week...not impressed in any way shape or form. especially considering the 100,000$++ price tag.

also...the gov't gave them like a 14$ million grant almost 5 years ago and this is what they came up with. so stupid.

waste of your time, guys.
