Apparently the 1.6 Fester has a "Plastic" engine according to the trade - it "expires" quicker than the 1.4.
I'd rather get a Chevrolet Aveo anyway

I was always a Chevy guy, and that 1.3L turbodiesel used in the Aveo is not so bad...

You mean the FIAT Multijet ? It is a good engine, has some DPF issues.

Apart from that though there is nothing superior about the Aveo, even the new one, over the current Fester. Except maybe the price, and you would lose on the trade in anyway.

The Mk3 Fester was a low point though - truly dreadful.

Exactly this one. DPF issues are mainly due to driving only short distances which don't lead the EGT's to provide enought heat to the DPF regeneration cycles. An EGR delete helps to manage this issue

Have a chat with Euromodder - he has had those issues quite a lot with his Volvo V50 and is pondering moving away from Diesel.

All new Diesels here have DPFs so I decided petrol last year.

I'd rather get either all the deletes (EGR/SCR/DPF), altough it's presumably illegal.

Actually the EGR is more problematic than the DPF itself.
