I drove my G2 Insight to look at a G1 Insight yesterday. The lady asked me how I liked the G2, I said it was great, and that she could get a killer deal on one. She was surprised that the G2s were so cheap. So I was like, "It's because nobody wants a car like this. Everyone wants an F150!" She started laughing because it was true. No one wants a car in America, everyone wants the biggest possible vehicle.

Please don't upset the apple cart. I am rather enjoying the bargains available among used, unwanted, sedans and coupes.

Yay. Big 4x4s. They would move out of the way of the 8x8 I drove off-road in Afghanistan.

I am saving up for this:

Yes, literally setting aside money for a vehicle that costs as much as a house, but more to maintain, and not just lying for fake Internet points.

Aren't you always posting about money troubles?

You can get a surplus FV 432 for about $3000 apparently. Then you need to ship it, which is around $8000.

I would rather have one of these though.

Yes, we can get some of those in the US, too, perhaps under different names (or could, not so long ago - I'm not up to date on current mode. I even have an '88 Toyota pickup myself. They're quite popular because they last darn near forever. But I don't see Honda, Subaru, Mazda, or Hyundai in that list. All profitable companies AFAIK, all selling cars in the North American market but not trucks.

Not only in America, but in other countries the fuel costs, tighter space on the roads and parking spots, and eventually the lower GVWR entitlements, lead many people away from a full-size.

This is popular among Brazilian "urban cowboys"
