Some more tweaking on the Kammback

Raised the roof of the kammback up another 2 1/2 inches. First time making one of these. It should stay on there pretty good as is. Took it for it's first test run. Seems to glide better and coast down is impoved. The add on extends further than the first. Here are a few more pics.

Cool that the steeper one is still underneath. Perhaps someday they can be tested against each other? Several low drag car are a wee bit under the template back there..

Yea, if I tried to remove the top add on, it'd rip up the bottom one with it. Would literally require removing 3 rolls of duct tape. It's on there good.

Right now the back of the Kamm back is open. Probably going to form it from the bottom of the trunk lid / top of the lights area to the top of the kamm. But, would I see any benefit from encapsulating the whole rear of the car from the bumper up? Use plexiglass or some type of see through plastic and tape. Not sure how to proceed. If this isn't done right, will it actually decrease mpg? I'd be happy with a 4 - 5% gain. Know that it's getting wheel skirts soon. Underside will have to wait until after winter.

Just give this a shot, simple and the best thing you can do. I think it's all you need to give the air a clean release. I was going to question the overhang earlier, but thought better of it. But since you brought it up, this is my solution. I was thinking the overhang without something to continue out the sides could create a weird vortex thing, probably wouldn't be a big deal, but preventing it would keep things nice.

I'll add the side extensions in and call it a day. Will it matter or not if the back is enclosed? Wanted the overhang to come out to @ where the bumper ends. Figured the further it extends, the longer the air has to glide down smoothly. Don't think I'll be removing the rear bumper. Not much to protect me in case of an accident if it's not there.

Did have an old Ford LTD without a bumper, just had a 2 x 4 piece of wood for a rear bumper. Same car had a rear brake line leaking. All I had to clamp it with was a couple old pushrods and some hose clamps. Found the rear flexible brake line and put one pushrod on top, the other on bottom. Clamped 'em together with the hose clamps and viola! No leak. It got me home... Besides, it was a $200 junker. But it would never die. No matter how hard I tried. Funny how the biggest POS's run forever, get something nice and it falls apart or constantly needs fixed.

LTDs are indestructible. In another thread about oil change intervals I mentioned a very high mileage LTD where the owner claimed to have never changed the oil... by the looks of it, I had no reason to doubt him, but all the same, it ran like a swiss watch.

Imagine the ugliest Ford green imaginable, wood bumper and spots of rust. But it had a 351 Modified or a 400 (can't remember which) and it ran great! Rusted out exhaust and all. Sold it as is for $500 quick to my friend. He sold it for $600 in a day. Later met up with the guy who bought it. Wound up trading that guy a '86 ish Ford Lincoln for a 1970 Torino GT rusted to hell and barely running. But I had a '70 Torino brougham that needed some panels. Used the GT hood on the better standard edition Torino. Wow those times where great! Got a 1972 Ford Mach 1 (rusted drivers side front frame) by trading a 1987 IROC 5 spd I purchased for $650 at a salvage auction (ran, drove, minor crinkle in the back rt corner). Pulled the 351 Cleveland out of the Mach 1. Put it in the Torino after pulling the anemic 302 2bbl. Still sold the Mach 1 for $1k without a motor on eBay junk cars. My how times have changed.
