Ford what are you thinking?
3.2 IL 5cyl turbo super duty diesel not in f 150? only using it in cargo van???
Then to make me more mixed up the gear ratio must be 3;75 if extended cab instead of 3;55 I thought your website said build your truck! I drove a European 4cyl diesel 4wd stick ranger that was awesome! you wouldnt sell it here in America. ??? why do you want to keep getting it wrong.
Remember the SVO mustang? How about the Super Coupe? 300 straight six trucks with stick shift?? Lets think economy work truck platform... economy delivery truck? Something We can trust!

They are thinking of the billions invested in Ecoboost(horrible name).
Ford is getting CAFE credits for making FFVs.
Car manufacturers aren't designing Diesels for anything above B20 anyway.

Maybe they're still skeptical about the receptiveness of the average pickup truck buyer to an engine with less than 6 cylinders in the American market, but honestly, I don't understand why. The 3.2L Powerstroke is perfectly viable into a 150, or even into a 250SD considering other engines which were available in overseas versions.

What is the problem with making small cylinders? Excessive friction? Maybe a 3.2L V6 might be slightly less efficient than an I5, but if people would be more likely to purchase it because it is a V6, then that is called marketing, right?

Packaging. Expense. Direct injection diesels have incredibly high rail and injector pressures (29-40k psi), and that requires a lot of high-pressure lines and tres expensive injectors. Then you have to figure on the turbos. Variable Geometry turbos used to cost an arm and a leg, but now they cost just a leg, so it's more worth it to have a single VG Turbo instead of sequential like you'd use on a V6.
Then there are the combustion chambers. It's easier to design direct injection and package it with a big chamber, so fewer cylinders still work better (up to a point)... but the 3.2 is beyond the size where that becomes a consideration, and the Ranger engine bay is long enough to take the five pot longitudinally.
As to why not sell it in the US... Allch Chcar is spot on the money. They've got a ton of money sunk into Ecoboost, and doing anything else dilutes the brand strategy and marketing push, and simply parasites sales away from Ecoboost trucks.

The other reason is you need to re-crash test every type of motor you want to put in the truck, I think if we repeal that load of bull**** you would see more engine options open up.

Truck buyers here in the US don't want V6's or small diesels. And why would they? GMC delivers the same fuel economy in their 5.3 V8 4x4 as the Ford 3.5 Ecoboost V6. Most truck buyers are going to go with the V8, because it's a V8.

One drive in an EcoBoost (compared to their 5.0L offering) instantly changes most people's minds. I have talked to lots of people who bought the EcoBoost not because of economy but because of the way they drive (my dad included). Having driven both, I would agree 100%.

Have you seen the freeways in the past decade? I think at least 3/4 of the pickup trucks out there are commuter vehicles in disguise...
