For fun: graph of US gas prices vs. forum activity 2008

Can't say I'm surprised...

(Gas prices chart source: Gas Price Historical Price Charts - GasBuddy.com)

Although it's heartening to see that while forum activity may have have risen in lock step with increasing fuel prices, it hasn't fallen at the same rate!

Thanks MetroMPG, that's pretty cool... I enjoy seeing correlations like that! Agree though that it's not too surprising to see the activity fall off here as the fuel prices go down... FE drops in people's priority list very quickly...

If we had been alive for longer and just plotted activity v average US temp I think we'd see something similar,

That's true. Spring fever / winter hibernation are probably factors too.

Nachtritter: new members sign-ups per month followed the same trend; I could have used either stat.

It would be interesting to see a plot of gas prices and Trucks and SUV's. There back on the rise since gas is cheap and the public in general has short term memory.

Quote:
This month, trucks and SUVs will make up 51% of all vehicles sold in the U.S., according to Edmunds.com. Before the spike in gas prices earlier this year, market share for trucks and SUVs had been even higher than that, said Edmunds.com sales analyst Jesse Toprak.
