Maybe I'm just pessimistic, but I feel like gas prices will be whatever the powers at be want them to be, to make money. Every excuse they have to raise prices, they will use. It's just a big game, and everyone who plays loses except for the guys holding all the cards. Hypermiling just helps you lose a little bit less, that's all.

That reminds me, "they" said food prices went up so much because of fuel prices... WELL? Fuel is cheap! What are the food suppliers waiting for?

I keep reading 2 things:
- Americans this year are driving more than ever, so demand is up;
- Refinery capacity is limited so there's not as much supply as there used to be. (Apparently refining capacity is way down compared to recent history.)
Also supposedly, a bunch of big refineries are going to be going offline for maintenance soon, which may drive the price of oil even lower (less processing demand), and gasoline higher (less supply).
But that's just what gets reported anyway.

Price differences are crazy around here, close to $1 between the highest and lowest. Seems to be driven by large drops in supplier prices.

You yanks still have nothing to complain about :P
Come over here, you might get a shock wave in your wallet.
Diesel is currently €1,16 per litre, gasoline i think €1,60ish. Per litre.
3,8 l per us gallon, so that would be in the region of $5,04 per us gallon of diesel.

All strange compared to uk as diesel is at lowest price for over 10 years. Cheaper than petrol now. Diesel is 110p per litre and petrol 115p per litre. I live in an area which is trying to get eu to drop our prices by 5p a litre because of our remoteness.

I'd be fine with the added gas tax if we didn't piss it away needlessly. Our state DOT is horribly inefficient at building projects, regularly going significantly over budget and making large, costly mistakes.

How is Bertha doing, anyway?
Talk about a costly mistake.
