I typically use my home made bike trailer for heavy stuff that wouldn't do well in soft bags, or balanced on an xtracycle rack up high over the wheel. Stuff like:

Thanks Metro - that is exactly what i was thinking about ( except wood instead of metal).
I like the use of the spring for the hitch.. that is a nice item.

We are having a neighborhood yard sale in November - I will make the rounds there and see if i can source the wheels "locally" as well as some other bits.

I will make sure to take some pics and update.
