Well, you started with the carbon-fiber epoxy pre-preg. But swap meet season is upon us; maybe you could find one off an old drag racer, that is narrowed for those 12" wide rear wheels, and just buy a different gear set at new price.

That's a good idea.
I'm going on 8-weeks without transportation now,and missed out completely with the PATE Swap Meet.
Except for re-instating the Honda I won't be able to take on any new 'projects' until I can get North Carolina behind me.And that's in jeopardy now that I've lost 1/6 of annual income and hemorrhaging cash as I attempt to resurrect the CRX.
All the 'decent' fabrication weather is a memory now and Satan's shown up with his brand of temp and humidity.I may be ready for the" nice young men in their clean white coats"by August.

That's a window onto a plateful of problems I didn't know you had.

The local VW swaps are on 1 June and 16 June. My favorite, times past, was the Porsche-VW swap in Amity, OR. I missed the last one last year. That's where i saw the Porsche 4-cam engine on a stand and the 1954 Type II riight-hand drive 23-window bus in showroom new condition (it was there 2 years). No 23-window bus you've ever seen, restored or no, prepares you for the upholstery those had from the factory. The proprietor, Gary Emory has progressed from Outlaw 356s to flat-head Ford 4-bangers.

The only Summer-zing I have left to do is mosquito netting, but I have a month or so to get to it.

What I'd like to do is lay a rectangular pipe frame 4x24' on the roof of the trailer and fill it with 2-3" of foam insulation. Then pile blackened scrap metal on that and cover it all with corrugated greenhouse glazing. Fan[s] in the roof vents, run at night in the summer and during the day in the winter.

So in the summer you'd be killing radiant heat through the ceiling and provide convection/chimney air circulation during day,and radiative cooling at night, bringing cooled air down?
Then in winter, active solar heating during daytime, while insulating the ceiling against heat loss at night?
Would the 'array' tilt up towards the winter sun if parked in an E-W orientation?

That's the idea, but no. The ceiling is hot to the touch when its 80° and above.

A frame to restrain the insulation, a few curved wood ribs to stiffen the glazing, black thermal mass in between. The trailer's not worth putting more into it.

If it was 2x18' it would bridge the 4ea 14" roof vents.

it's (not) alive, but it is closer

Drove up to look at the T-100 yesterday. The mechanic has spark. He has doubts about the fuel pump.
I went up this morning and removed the last of the belly pan to allow him access to the fuel tank.
He'll bypass the relay and put voltage directly to the unit 'n see if she'll spit out a stream of fuel. And then go from there.
So maybe I'm not looking at an ECM,which is pricey to say the least.
The CRX is kinda getting me around.I had spent 10-hours on the 4th of July working on the carburetor.I finally arrived at a needle-and-seat/float/upper-lower O-ring combo which would allow me to set the float level finally.
Front brake dragging has been a recent issue.Dis-assembly,cleaning,hand burnishing, lubrication and re-assembly has resolved that with the calipers.
I ordered kits today so as to get fresh dust seals for the pucks which will be eaten in no time on our unimproved community dirt roads.
All the travel budget is gone just making ends meet as I awaited transportation to get me back to work.
I'll shoot for North Carolina in the spring. It will give me all winter to do the composite work I'd hoped to have behind me by now.

Thanks for the update, but I guess I'm a year late.

My finances aren't much better, but if I can get myself to Seattle, I have a ride to Speed Week and home again.

The below picture is an older one from one of Aerohead's albums.

Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com - aerohead's Album: Pickup images - Picture

Questions;

1. Is the aft storage box on all the time?

2. Is this box the same one used at the salt-flats?

3. Is this box attached with the tailgate up or down?

4. Could someone provide a link which goes into it's design and construction in more detail?

EDIT: 07/22/13 For the record, this is a more current version - but will it be the last?
