From what I've read you can also bolt one of the older 4spd manual transmissions from the old 190Dcs to the 2.4L engine, but it's a four on the tree so rigging up a shifter might be a pain in the arse.

sell s-10
buy benz
chop off body of benz behind the front doors and weld in a cab wall. add flatbed. i'd do it

How about a Volvo or Mercedes diesel and a small trailer, that way you have carrying capacity in line with the S-10 and a car to use for long trips with 5 seats.
The cheapest thing to do is to buy a Volvo diesel estate, as they all have the bombproof 2.4 litre 6 cylinder VW made engine, then you have room for the bike in the back with the seats down. Then ask around local restaurants for waste vegetable oil and make yourself a biodiesel reactor like this one:
Biodiesel Appleseed Reactor Plans
This way no body chopping has to happen, and you can install some sort of electric fuel heater for winter and run all year round fossil fuel free, without having to worry about pushing food prices up.

That would also allow me to tow the 5th-wheel!

Why yes!!! Almost too easy!!!
Pickup bed trailers are plentiful! I recommend one with good shocks, though...
...and to top it off, you could use the trailer to haul your (bio)diesel generator to pull behind the EM!
EDIT: You have a 5th-wheel you pull behind the S-10???

I've got this thing. (Er, the trailer, not the kid. That's the son of the person I bought the trailer from.)
Not a 5th wheel - it has a standard ball hitch, but it's not tiny either.
It's just waiting for restoration.

Cool! And a tudor at that!!!
There's been many a night that I have wished I had one of those. Sometimes even a sleeping bag and a blanket just don't suffice!!!

Well,
It looks official! I am going to buy a diesel.
Rich and I are driving out almost 2 hours west of my place to look at, and hopefully buy and drive home a Mercedes Benz 240D.
I called the seller today, and he said he started it the other day, and then again this morning. He put it in his garage, so he can get it warmed up and all the snow off it. He also has an air compressor to top off the tires.
You guys can squabble over the exact chopping and modding once I get it home!

I didn't know our dogs could get in the fight.
Just my one vote, but that's a mighty pretty car to cut up...
