One unit is worth more than my whole house.

Electric resistance heating, lights and computers run $40-80/mo. So if I save half of $40 six months of the year, that's $120 a year for more than 20 years. It doesn't pencil out.

Plus, the only cheaper electricity in the world has to be stolen.

I'm in the minority of this opinion, but 'penciling out' is more important for the youth.

On Thursday it hit 88 degrees outside, and since we were having people over, I ran the 5-ton AC for 3 hours and consumed 12 kWh.

On Friday it hit 89 degrees outside, and I turned on the 1-ton AC window unit the moment it became warmer outside than indoors. It ran for 9hrs, holding indoor temp to 79 degrees, and consumed 7 kWh.

I think the single window unit will get us through the summer and save a bit of electricity. I average 1000 kWh for cooling with the 5-ton unit every year, so by September I should be able to see if the window unit saved energy.

I get a lot of shade from trees in the morning. My next project is putting awnings on the six West-facing windows. I need a method for fastening to the existing eyebrows.

The easy solution might be to getting the 3D printer unclogged.
