Are geo metros loud?

I am curious about how loud they are when traveling at freeway speeds and if there is a way to make them quieter without spending a lot of money.

'Loud' is subjective. You have NVH from the chassis, motor noises and wind. Which is most important?

When I first got my Metro, the most noticeable noise was air seeping around the door window glass. Beetle owners routinely replace the weather seals, but I don't know what it take on a Metro.

A 1 liter 3-cylinder isn't going to shake the ground. I get some rattling from the tailpipe hanger. At freeway speeds, something in the back rattles a lot, but I can't crawl back there to see what it is.

You can certainly quiet down a barebones car if you want to. More than a couple of Mirage owners have stripped out the interiors and plastered on that sound deadening stuff ... those big squares of peel-and-stick asphalt/tar.

Ask me again in the spring when I get my 1998 Firefly on the road. I'll be better able to compare it to the the Mirage.

But I suspect they're about the same.

Well I am currently a Junior in highschool and I don't have a full license yet but I do have a permit that allows me to drive when accompanied by someone 21 or older. I drive my mom's car and my dad's truck. My mom drives a 2018 Volkswagen Golf and My dad drives a Dodge Dakota from the mid 2000s. I don't really like the way the truck handles too much. In regards to safety I just want something that won't turn me into a vegetable or dead if I get in a crash with another car. I don't expect to survive getting hit by a semi-truck as even modern cars can't do that. When I get my license I plan on taking classes to learn how to drive a manual transmission. Ideally I would like a sedan or a coupe but I could tolerate a hatchback. What I mean by loud is something like this or a motorcycle that you can hear from inside a building.

Well, that one is easy, they're not that loud. And you could always add a Supertrapp muffler as a tailpipe extensions. I think you'd want the 1.75" Universal.

Pick some race sanctioning body, something low performance like drag racing or gymkhana, and build something to their rule book. You don't even have to face their tech inspectors and then not race. A four-point roll cage and extra straps on the gas tank? (I talked to a LeMons racer at a show 'n shine who told me their tech inspectors made him cut access plates in his roof so they could inspect the welds on his roll cage) Profit from other's mistakes.

Here's my first car. Until I got it, I drove my father's bread truck/camper.
