Hello
Hello, finally got around to joining this forum I was surprised by all the information and am now slowly preparing myself with knowledge to start modifying my 1994 ford ranger 4cyl 5spd i couldnt pass up the deal but the fuel mileage could be alot better. Unsure though how much fuel i have vs miles as either something in the cluster or the level sender is not working and was told to always fill it at 300miles or earlier. So working with figuring that out as well as some other issues. overall i wish to gain knowledge and hopefully prevail with savings at the pump and possibly build something cool. im also into autocross, drifting and other forms of motorsports that maybe i could figure in the future how to build a car that suits a majority of things(ex: good fuel economy/ drifter---might end up being the truck ) also due to living in the country i like to take atvs out and have fun. So far i have alot of projects on my mind the main one being fixing the ranger but others include a EV ATV as well as motorcycle and many more....I love projects and tinkering and diys and hopefully in the future i can be of a benefit to this forum.
P.s. - if anyone wants to chime in on possible mods for the 1994 ranger you think i should consider let me know ....so far ive swapped over the plug wires on the exhaust stroke so now i have 2 plugs per cyl firing at the same time definitely woke the truck up and according to some apparently helped with my fuel mileage.

Welcome to the site.
You can still figure mileage as long as your odometer works. Just miles divided by gallons put in.

So, is your Ranger a regular-cab or an extended-cab?

Have you tried any of the driving techniques suggested here yet? (Pulse and glide, among others)

An easy and cheap mod to start with would be a tonneau.

We've had a few detailed Ranger ecomodders documenting their trucks here.
EG: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...log-26317.html
... is currently seeing 40 mpg US in his. (YMMV).

have been practicing some of the tips here on the site and so far with the exception of a tool chest(the box type that bolts to your bed) and the ignition dual sparkplug fire mod im averaging 24 approx mpgs. and now i am testing a approx 40 pound weight reduction i made by swapping to xr4ti bucket seats (removable passenger=-40lbs approx and doing away with the uncomfortable bench will report back upon next fill up.
i appreciate all the input i feel as though i should go make a thread and document my progress on my truck id love to think i could possibly make it to 30mpg with some quick mods to the truck and my driving style but will see on that as im still figuring out the other half of this truck which is hopefully going to include drifting
also unsure if the sliding glass weighs less or if my solid rear window is the way to go but hope to start that new thread soon once again thank you
