Hello there!
My '92 LSC with a bit of snow on top and an '87 LSC I no longer own in the background. It has 110,000 miles on the clock ans so far my best average MPG driving to and from work is 17.7. (My avatar pic.)
This is my '97 Impreza. I've owned and beat on it for over a decade and it currently has 172,000+ miles. The best MPG driving to and from work so far is 31, IIRC. It usually averages around 27 mpg in the summer and 24 mpg in the winter.
The wife's 3.0R stealth wagon. These things are FAST!!! Averages around 22 MPG in mixed driving.
Like many other noobs I've lurked here for quite a while, just soaking up information. While I don't see myself ever employing extreme hypermiler driving techniques I do make a conscious effort to drive more smoothly and conservatively and I will definitely be making some efficiency and aerodynamic improvements.

@MetroMPG: Thanks!
@cripple rooster: Yep, the exact same engine that went into the '92 Mustang GT.

Have you never considered to retrofit it with a newer, smaller engine, such as the Essex 4.2L V6 out of an F-150?

No, but I have considered trading it in on something more efficient.

So it might be worthwile to use the car as a base for a fuel-savings oriented project. I guess you have been aware of an Edsel retrofitted with a 2.3L Georgia OHC Turbo...
