Cool Hello from Yelm, Wa

Just signed on to ecomodder. What a GREAT website! I'm the proud father of a 91 Geo Metro LSI 1.0 L. Intercepted it on the way to the scrap yard, and bought it for $50.00. I figured on reducing my energy consuption by recycling a used (dead) vehicle with used parts. It had an engine that barely ran -low compression- and dead brakes and bearings on all corners. rebuilt the brakes (with new parts) and replaced the engine with a used japanese G10. engine was originally carbureted and had a flex plate for auto trans. Is now FI 5 speed. So far, the best I can do is an average of 50 mpg by advancing the ignition timing to 14 degs BTDC from the spec of 5 BTDC,and inflating tires to max (36 psi). the weather turned cold after these mods, and they started road construction on my normal route to work, so i think all do alot better when its all said and done.

Now THAT's a username! (Not that there's anything wrong with that. )

Way to demonstrate the 3 R's with your Metro. You've probably already discovered there are more than a couple of other mechanically inclined members here (Metro owners and others) who have rescued older, efficient cars from a date with the crusher and cut their energy use.

I'd say 50 mpg in construction in falling temperatures is decent, and you're right to expect higher numbers in ideal conditions.

Welcome to the forum.
