Yeah, I should have mentioned that. I'm not a fan of Chrysler. Thats generally not even an issue, because they hardly have any cars that get good mpg anyways.
The SL1 looks like it could be a pretty good deal. The fixes required are easy (alternator) and/or can be lived without (mirrors and fender). I'd hope to go there with a fresh battery and drive it home. I emailed the guy.
However, I wouldn't mind going with the SC2 either if it was in pretty good shape. I did email the guy asking what it needs. Its a lot better mpg wise than the Sunfire.
I do agree with not buying another persons project. You never know what they might have done with it.
I'm also in absolutely no hurry. The Sunfire works and even needs some work before I'd sell it anyways (tonight its thermostat and serpentine belt replacement time). Replacing it is only an option at this point. This summer I'll be working to get my 1993 Tercel on the road again (my first car, yay), but it needs a decent amount of work. Once that is done, I'd highly consider selling the Sunfire or whatever else I'm driving.

Don't be such a tease. We demand a new project vehicle, pronto!
Here's a picture of a really good electric car for sale:
How far is your commute? Do you need working brakes?

What about a manual sunfire or cavalier? The manual version is rated better than your auto and with some EOC and some other mods I bet you could get 50+ mpg out of one. Shouldn't be to hard to find for cheap either.

Guy with the finger outta be slapped. Reminds me of the time I called on a Karmann Ghia; I asked how rusty it was and was told oh, there's hardly any rust. So I drive over to see it and it was the biggest P.O.S. this side of a car crusher. Like no prospective buyers aren't going to see it eventually???
Another "favorite" thing of mine is people that include in their ads pics of their P.O.S. taken in the dark. Yeah.

Yeah, I'd definitely consider a manual trans Sunfire or Cavalier. Finding one is another story though...

Man, if you can make it to Florida I'll sell you the Black Widow for a grand. The two hundred bucks you have left would pay for gas for three or four months
It comes with some sweet mods already installed, and of course the custom paint, it gets upwards of 60 mpg, has 128,000 miles on it, and you won't even miss the A/C once you get north of Georgia
I've never driven it more than 40 miles before (or driven it on a highway) so I couldn't guarantee it would make it to Michigan, but it'll definitely make it 40 miles on back roads!
