^^ now vinyl is a good idea.. Not permanent but will still get the job done..

I wet-sanded with 600 grit just enough to rough up the old paint. My favorite dollar store had Rustoluem spray paint. I bought two cans and still have half a can left. Wiith a brown interior and a lot of glass, I didn't expect the roof to make much difference. Externally, the white surface feels much cooler than the rest of the car. No comments yet. Window tint is next....

Nice, inexpensive execution. Tint will help too. Did for me. But you'll want to get the ceramic or metalized kind, with higher heat reflective capacities... it also last longer than the cheaper less effective stuff. (My metalized tint is under warranty for the life of the car, which I intend to be many years yet.)

If you want to do it for the heat reduction, why not use the best color to do so and get the best results ?

There's probably some expensive heat-reflective paint in a fancy color , but simple gloss white would do nicely.
(If everybody painted their roofs white, it'd offset the increased urban heat.)

Dulux have a website that compares their heat reflective paints to regular paints.
The fun part is that you can also compare the effects of the different regular colors as they were tested under standard conditions.

Unfortunately off-white and what are probably some light colors don't have reports on them ...
