Hi from the UK

Hi,

I'm Rob - I drive a '98 VW polo (6N for all you dubbers). I don't think it was sold over in the States but its kinda cool - basically designed for cheap family transport, true VW idIology, and Cruising on the german autobahns at high speed so its quite slippery for a mid ninties hatchback.

I bought it as a project car as My last Hypermiler (vauxhall astra diesel) was totalled when i was tailgated on the highway.

Plans?
a few aero tweaks mainly out-of-sight-out-of-mind stuff like undertrays, skinny tyres, lowering, stop/start button etc wheel trims

Pics to follow

Welcome to the site. Definitely looking forward to the pics. I wish we got the Polo over here, I believe its smaller than our Jetta.

OH YES!! much smaller, it runs the MK2 golf suspension but in a more compacted layout. nothing compared to the LUPO though, thats tiny - yet feel weirdly big inside!!

Inbuilt spoiler (barely see it) in the metal work

crying out for a microKAMM !!

Sorry no front shots but my fiancee was blocking the driveway with her cars so i couldn't move it back far enough.

Plans are simple - going to do a few simple aero and mech mods so that the car can be driven by a lay person and still return 50MPGus on the highway with no special techniques. thinking about linking a stop start to the Neutral location on the gear shift( its manual so that could be difficult)

feel free to add suggestions!

robchalmers -

Welcome to EM! Cool Polo. If I had one, I'd put a "Marco" sticker somewhere on the car. But that's just me.

Nice Polo, it looks in good condition too. (And i like the colour)

Oh, for the MoT, i believe you only legally need one side mirror, and the internal rear view one. Check at your local garage before removing any though.

Yeah the whole '2 operational mirrors' deal - tbh I want/need two outer ones for the amount off highway driving I do so I'm gonna look into some smoothed ones.

Going to put some standard 155/70/13 tyres instead of these 175 scrubbers! also Going to get the tracking checked, it looks ,visually, like its got alot of toe-out currently.

I've put a duct tape grill blank on to test seeing how its so hot at the mo!

Front shots

not really set up for aero at the mo just testing the running temps as we're getting 100+degF here! (for once!!)
