Either the Sentra at 37 MPG or a diesel car at 49.8 MPG cost the same per mile for fuel.
Last gas here was 1.809, diesel $2.799.

The Sentra is looking good.

2012 Chevy Sonic LT

Nice looking Sonic, little above the 6k you want to spend, and doesn't list miles, but at only 2 yo must be all hwy.

2012 Chevrolet Sonic LT

Hatch back 1.4t & 6 speed, little odd looking to me but I think I could adjust to it, I don't see that when I'm driving and the utility of the hatch back does have advantages.

2013 Chevy Sonic Salvage title but only 15,000 miles & $8500

Winner IMO - Cruze Eco $6800

2012 Chevrolet Cruz eco 6spd turbo

Nice. Thank you.

You aren't afraid of the water damage? & why wouldn't he sell it back to his dad or through his dad?

Kristin's Altima was a flood car, the guy(actually his ex-wife) I got if from got it with 10-15,000 miles, pulled the interior, dried and reinstalled, had 150,000 on it when I got it, if the Cruze Eco owner drove it 20,000 miles any other bugs/damage would have showed up.

Take it for a good long test drive to see if any CEL come on, test every electronic gizmo you can, like 30+ miles, cause he could clear them just before you get there. It would be good to see the title to verify he's actually driven it 20,000 and how long. He list the VIN so you can probably find out the information through that.

Most big dealers won't sell salvage title, they'd send it to auction if he traded it in and he'd get less money. He say motivated so maybe 6k will get it.

Clear title Cruze Eco with about same miles for comparison. $10,500

Another Eco with 35,000 miles so $2000 more.

Cruze/Sonic

The Cruze/Sonic suggestion is a good one. These cars have an extremely quiet interior and they're a pleasure to drive on the highway. There's a night and day difference between a Sonic and something like a Nissan Versa.

The Cruze is more efficient and quieter on the highway but the Sonic is slightly better in the city. It's possible to hit 60mpg in a Cruze Eco.

Just make sure you get the turbo 1.4L. It's quieter, faster, and more efficient than the 1.8L and it has a timing chain (I made that mistake)

Found our original red vibe GT from Breckenridge motors. They have had the car since July 1.

You're in a large market, pick the car you want, plus 5 and do a daily search. Cruze, sonic and new Trax share motors. And don't throw out Cobalts, my 155 hp xfe is fun to drive, barely break 4,000 rpm of the 6500 redline with 155 hp and can break the tires loose with wet pavement with 37 hwy rating. XFE's are rare but out there, not that the auto's are that bad, rated 34 hwy 09-10 IIRC, KT's cobalt has better seats than my XFE LS and does better than the fuel log shows. Took me about 6 months of watching salvage yards to find my XFE.

Lot's of Fiesta I'd lean that way myself or Focus, I'd love a Focus 2.0 SFE FFV with 5 spd.

Nothing adjainst the Vibe but the GT has larger motor, worst mpg. If you lived in say Duluth, I'd recomend this.

Don't know why but I have some attraction for these, if only I could get my girls to drive manuals (last one that did a LEO had to help her off the hwy from a uphill stop light). Offered the next one $50 Saturday to drive my Cobalt 10 miles and she turned me down.

Guess my 15 yo boy will get it when I move up to a Mirage. There are a couple Mirages down in you area, mpg great, warranty great, under 20,000 miles, probably at the top of my list to replace my Cobalt.

Good hunting.

Still looks like a decent buy.

EDIT: one I haven't noticed, not sure why it's there but looks nice(repo?)

2013 Chevrolet Cruze

Great options. Thanks for taking the time to create this response. I am still looking through them and will use this information to decide.

As far s the vibe GT engine being too big. I like that it is an engine that lasts forever & I will be getting 38 mpg from it which I thought was good.
