This is what vehicles could look like if the companies really gave a $h!t about fuel economy ...
Maybe it's what cars will start to look like when OEMs get forced to reduce actual FC.
With Europe's NEDC being run on a stationary dyno, the boattail doesn't have any benefits in their fancy regulations world.

It will start to accelerate!
We are the pioneers, here at EM and as gas prices go higher, and people feel the sting, they will be way more receptive to projects like this.
Already we have several people here at work who talk about gas mileage and how to increase it. One of the staff, who is still in college, is a team member in a hybrid high mileage vehicle program.
It's already happening. I still think of AeroCivic, and the impression he made on me with his car!! For me, that's what got the ball rolling.

And what got the ball rolling for me was reading Phil Knox's article "Free Fuel Riding on the Wind" .

Don't see any grill opening at front. Have you created a bottom breather?
I've wondered about the under tail angles. I have wondered if it would be a bit slicker with a 4 deg. taper on the bottom and perhaps shorter.

As long as we are going for the ideal, there should be strakes behind the rear wheels. What is the advantage of the pointy nose, anyway? And yes, the underside angle on the boattail is probably a bit too steep.
Can the scale of the plan view be reduced so that it is the same as the other three views?

It lowers the stagnation point to reduce the amount of air passing under the car. On the Aerocivic, the cooling air inlets are below the stagnation point to even further reduce the amount of air passing under the car. That nose is similar in shape to the Aerocivic's nose.

Yes Neil, I thought there would strakes on the tail this year, but not so far.
The underside ideal is indeed closer to 4 deg., but I increased the angle for clearance on the common driveway apron. No sense ripping off the tail on a steep entrance!
Jim.
