Hey Scott. I am finally able to take off the original tires and install new ones. I've run them out as far as i dare. About $153 for the pair and free mounting!
I merely shopped for a decent tire that was cheap, sorry, i admit it. I found a great deal on a 120/70/17 Conti-motion for the front and a 150/70/17(slightly taller then factory) Shinko SR741 for the rear. These should last me the rest of this season and hopefully until early spring next year.

Right before my eldest son and i head to Alaska early June 2019, i have chosen to put on a new matched pair of 705's just for that trip. They should last all the way up to Fairbanks/Artic Circle and back! We both only have three weeks off from work so i just don't have the extra 4 days to head up to Deadhorse. Once i return home i'll finish off what's left and install a nice set of Michelin 5s' that i've got my eye on! :{)

I took a few days off from work and went camping. This was on my fav river rd testing grounds as well. I rode the Cd'A river Rd again. This time with my brand new tires, breaking them in and trying them out. I installed a Conti-Motion on the F-120/70/17 and and nice Shinko SR741 on the R-150/70/17. I also had my camping clothes/gear loaded in my 46L top box for this trip.



I figured i'd gain a little with the taller rear tire and then lose a little with the big 46L top box and it might be a wash, i guess not. So far i've clocked 99 mpg, 98 mpg and now a respectable 94 mpg! This also included a long full throttle pass to get around a land Yacht pulling a 30' travel trailer and a 3 mile side road trip. So, pretty good mpg. I'm happy with it! :{)

Today was the day!! I did in fact just recently install a smaller DCT 39T rear sprocket(thanks Chris) and adjust the chain loose to the factory specs. This morning I rode the beautiful Cd'A River Rd again. This morning the weather was beautiful, sunny/partly cloudy(it had rained earlier that morning at the river though). So it was a little chilly in the 60's, damp air and the roads were wet. The wind was blowing with gusty crosswinds about 20-25 mph and the flags were all straight out!

I enjoyed a beautiful 100 mile ride and stopped to top off. By filling the tank and nursing it to the top...,



the pump stopped at .994 gallons..., netting me a new personal best of..
100.6 MPG!!!!

Pretty awesome mileage! I am no further into getting a fuel injected bike of my own, so 60 MPG is awesome for me... Need my own garage. I just hooked up a vacuum gauge to my CBR 250, and have a VERY little oil pan heater on the way, so those should both help. Of course it is leaking coolant, so I can't ride it, but that should be fixed soon enough. Until then I have time to figure out where to mount the vacuum gauge.

Does the speedo run off of the front wheel, or do you have a correction device/calculation? Edit: Looks like I asked that before, but I don't know if you ever answered that.

How is the new super tall gearing?

Hey Das, Thanks! The speedo runs off of the tranny so it is way off.

On my 100 mile run, i was able to use the mile markers and at 10 miles it was about 1.5 off and by the time i hit 100 miles it was 16.25 miles short. So about 16% slower then what i'm really doing.

I really notice the bike's torque now and MAN..!!.. does it pull and pull and pull through the gears!! I LIKE it!!

So to recap what i've done to it:
1- K+N air filter
2- larger factory honda wind screen
3- ROX 2" handlebar risers
4- highway pegs
5- DanMoto free flow exhaust pipes
6- Tires aired up fully 36F/42R
7- 17T front sprocket
8- 39T rear sprocket
9- taller 150/70-17 rear tire(next time i'll find an even taller 140/80-17")
10- frequently oiled or over oiled chain hahahaha

Too bad you're not closer as i would make you a "killer deal" on my Black/Black 2012 CBR250r with under 500 miles on it!! :{)

I just got back from a week long ride from Colorado to Utah (about 500 miles of "highway" each way) that left me about 970 miles (that I have fuel receipts for, I haven't filled up from the last hundred miles yet).

The highway was with 42L side cases and a top box, the rest was sans boxes but a pretty good mix of gravel, off road and highway.

So for 1970 miles (approximation within 1 or 2%) I used 30.275 for a respectable and pleasing to me 65mpg.

Gotta love the NC700x

That is incredible Chris, even with those huge boxes your fuel mileage didn't take near as big of a hit as your crash bars did hehehhe(sorry). Saturday morning i'm headed over to the beautiful Oregon Coast for a week. I'll get some great pics and post a RR when i return. :{)

as far as aero, yes. Anytime we add something to the bike, it increases the drag. I did some testing on mine with bare bike, then top box only, then side luggage only then top and both side boxes. each one cost me a few mpg, only a few but none the less it comes at a cost. Overall, i'd so rather run with the boxes and have a great trip then to not have them. I like the size of your boxes, mine are the smaller ones and don't hold very much so i am constantly having to add gear somewhere else.
