The ultimate way of dealing with a troll is to locate him and have a dozen or so of us to visit him in person....he would probably have an anxiety attack before anyone touched him.
Pipe dream, but my point is trollers are too gutless to do this to anyone's face.

Troll banned, next time people see trolls, please do report. We don't always catch them on first glance, after all

Have you had cases of people signing up just to make fun of all you Metro-loving girly men?
(I ask in all seriousness...)

It's not a pipe dream, at another site I used to moderate we made it a habit of getting as much info on a problem member as possible. It came in handy when one kid came posting a load of suicidal ramblings. A quick email to his mother's Facebook and we didn't see him for months, when he returned post-counseling. Also had his home address, and phone number, but an email sufficed.
Another fellow who was harassing a cousin of mine over Facebook got an email, asking if his home address seemed familiar. He quickly backed off, and apologized for causing trouble.
The internet is never as anonymous as one may think. It is an interesting place...

Texan I think you got it perfect. Behind the keyboard is no different than behind the wheel. If someone thinks they're anonymous, they'll bully as much as they've been bullied. (See Anonymous/4-Chan pedo dealings)

Personally, I love trolls, especially the ones who bully.
I'm kind of wierd in that I like looking into the psychology of different people and trying to find connections, or imagining people in different situations.
For example, take a troll who's clearly imature and insecure, one who lashes out with personal insults and disrespect, one who feels their intelligence is superior to everyone elses.
Then take that person, and imaginarily place him in control of say...North Korea.
Would anything chage?
Would Kim Jong Il make a great internet troll?
Are trolls and dictators one in the same, just occupying a different station?
We all know that these people wouldn't dare be so rude and insulting in person, mainly because they don't have the confidence to do so, coupled with fear of reprisal. But put an army behind them and what happens? Removal of fear installs confidence and the insulting and rude behavior returns to oppress a whole nation.
Anyway, that's how my mind works.

Here for your entertainment is (IMHO) one of the funniest commentaries I've ever seen about web dwellers of message boards ( click here).
Some of these made me laugh out loud. (Caution: don't have a mouthful of beverage while reading them as you don't want to wet your keyboard.)
(If you enjoy the site, thanks are appreciated.)

Whatever. Y'all are just hatin'. Bulltrue was Better than the rest. He claimed to be smarter than 90% of you with his engineering and automotive background. Boi drives a 10k lb turbo diesel crew cab. Not afraid to hit his brakes and let you eat his bumper. Richer than King Solomen with his countless collection of vintage iron. Come to think of it, he wasn't better at all. Hell, he wasn't even a good liar.

Have you ever checked if any troll's IP is from Pyongyang? Kim Jong Il is one of the few N.Koreas who can afford a car, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a 7.3 liter quadcab in his garage, plus a few vintage sports cars. Who but who, but HE is better than the rest.
