Because whether or not a need to drive is unpredictable. For example, I need to go to a conference next week, and this summer I'll be driving a lot for bike racing, but at school, I don't need to drive, unless something "comes up." I could get buy with no car if I was just at school, but for those times when I'm home and would need a car more often, I'd be screwed,

1.27 gallons per week using my garage entries for this year.
I carpool with one of the other guys at work whenever possible, we use his truck all the time now btw. He has outgrown my Geo. He won't let me buy the gas, but he does let me buy his coffee on the way in.
so it is really
1.27 gallons gas,and
.96 gallons coffee
I walk to the local store for stupid little items
I drive when I have to

This is pretty funny..................

My 1995 Chevy 4X4 gets horrible gas mileage. I would have to put about $15.00 per day in this truck just to go the 40 miles round trip to work. Add another $30-$40 for the weekend. This equals out to using about 35 gallons of gas per week on average.

Thirty five gallons in one week? My 1998 Metro has just used 30 gallons in the last month since I got it, but this was with 2 weeks running on 2 cylinders and a plugged cat.

Right now, I use about 6-8 gallons per week on average including weekend travels. What a life-saver this little car is!

rounded out I use nearly exactly 1 gallon per day/ 7 per week. Some days I do burn nearley 10 gallons (rare), but over time it is made up by the fact that I typically use .4~.5 gallons on a normal day.
