So far as I can find most oil companies say about 90 days until the octane levels start to decline but there are so many factors influencing storage in the equation I think it is probably hard to get a definite number.

Cheers , pete.

I averaged my usage from February 1 to April 30 and came up with 10.43 gallons per week.

24 mile roundtrip to work .. 120 Miles / week 27 MPG
would be about 4.4 gal / week.

what about $ / mile as a measure?
$3.69 ($/Gal) dividedby 27 (Mile/Gal) = 0.136 $ / Mile
times 24miles / day to work and back = $3.28 / day.

GAUD that suprises me... if i got a bike for $100 - i would need to ride to work 30 days to "pay" for the bike in saved gas..
I have to explore that more... interesting had not thought of it that way.

Over the winter I was using around 2 gallons a week, I'm now down to around 1 gallon a week.

90 days before gas starts to change it's octane rating sounds about right, after 6 months of sitting motorcycles don't normally run well, I've fixed a number of motorcycles this spring that had gas that was a little over a year old and they wouldn't run until they had new gas.

The Paseo uses at max 4.5 gallons a week depending on how much I carpool with the wife. This week I used about 1.5 gallons.

The Matrix uses roughly 14 gallons per week (100 miles per day average) thus my focus on this vehicle.

And what does decreased octane levels mean ? Will it actually go " bad ? "

Looks like it's time for a roadtrip !

I have heard this many times before.

What all will be damaged by letting a car set to long ?

I try to drive my car at least two or three miles every two weeks or so.

Every three months or so, I run down to Houston to visit my folks - a 280 mile round trip.

This last trip, I had a flat ( valve stem leak ) on one tire and another of the tires developed a split at the valve stem. I had the valve stem replaced.
Could this sort of thing be due to having the car set too long ?

I average around 8-10gal a week. I drive a lot though, to and from work, car club meets, race track....blah blah blah!

Although, now that I have been payin more attention to my driving, perhaps that will decline a bit!

7 gallons a week +-, 320 miles, about 2 gallons better than when I started ecomodder in February. Sixth consecutive weekly tank at better than 40 mpg.

Last year I used 10-14 gallons a week to travel the same distance and thought nothing of it.
