I asked on IC if anyone knew a mechanic in Tucson that knew Insights and someone shared a horror story of someone trying to drive an Insight they just bought across the country.

I used to know a girl in North Carolina, but she is in Florida.

She is also crazy.

Sad to say, but I would steer you away from that car. SRS light = airbag light. It could mean many things, but possibly the car was in an accident that set off the airbags and was never reported and never repaired properly. Dead battery, evidence of an accident, 300k miles on the chassis, beat up body, frankly even if it runs well it's probably a $500 car.

Buy for $500, sell IMA core for $200-$500, part out the rest of the car (i.e. wheels, catalytic converters, cluster, seats, etc. etc., have $1000 by the end of it, and now you have $500 extra for a nicer Insight. Provided you could find a customer. Still a lot of work though. Ecky makes a valid point.

Yeah, probably worth it.

5spd silver 2001 Insight in Tehachapi, CA. 291K miles, good IMA, $2200, probably could get it for $1500. Needs new cluster (something is leaking in the assist bar) and paint is peeling on roof and possibly hood. Comes with a lower grille block though.

Another silver 2001 Insight in Badger, CA. Claims 100,000 miles but suspect that was just a generic number thrown in the ad. $2000 but could probably get it for $1500. Wrong wheels and tires, missing wheel spats, but has upgraded seats, and the seller calls it a "hella gas saver"...

There really aren't a large number of decent Insights in AZ, so I get why you want to check out that Tuscon one, but don't settle for one that'll just give you and your wallet a daily headache to fix up.

A Gen 1 Insight owner responded to your thread on Tuscon about meeting up to check out the white Insight.

Aren't I supposed to receive notifications?

I at least wanted them to drop the price again first, but if someone is willing to help me out...

The guy in Tucson says "Carfox shows 314K. [...] Look elsewhere."

That is two votes for walking away. Metro says this is [way] too far away. RainSux and Rush indicate they feel it is worth $1,500, but I do not have the impression that RainSux would feel bothered if this turned out to be a nightmare for me.

The first gen Insight is economical on gas, but has a range of small and bigger problems as you must be well aware of (especially if you spent some time on InsightCentral).
A simple car like a Fit may turn out cheaper in the long run. Even when compared to a non-suspect Insight...

Please do not buy that Insight!

Well, that is three against...

I set up a Craigslist alert. Supposedly if you do a Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp search it will ask if you want to receive alerts, but I do not see that option. Apparently if you search OfferUp for a Civic HX it automatically looks for EXes instead.

At least it does not automatically search for an Si or a lifted truck, but an EX is kind of the opposite of an HX.
