Four, if you're talking about using the car as a DD. Agree that there are just too many risks for anything more than a super cheap parts car.

deals are out there

I dunno if I ever posted what I paid for mine, but FYI I got a very good deal on my 2000 Insight. I wasn't shopping for one (also, they're exceedingly rare in Canada, with fewer than 500 sold here). It just dropped in my lap.

269k km / 167k miles on it, a trade-in at a local used car dealer -- traded because the IMA was light on, and the previous owner panicked from the Honda dealer quote for a new pack (which was tired, but not damaged - rebalancing brought it back enough to be serviceable). The EGR was plugged, so it didn't drive well (bucked).

Result: broken, oddball car, and the little used car dealership just wanted to get rid of it.

I cleaned the EGR, cleared the IMA codes, replaced the front brake pads, and it passed inspection. (After it passed, I pulled the pack and re-balanced it.)

It was cosmetically excellent too, and dealer-maintained by the book. The 2nd gear prob had been repaired at the dealership. The entire car had been repainted a few years before because a temporary car shelter (tube & tarp) it was parked under fell on top of it in a wind storm. (Definition of irony?)

I paid $1400 for it, and that was 7 years ago (holy cow, time flies). Deals are out there!

Does anyone have a Copart account?

This one will be up for auction in Phoenix. There is something a little fishy about the trunk and a side skirt is attached with tape, but this still looks infinitely better than the white one!

2005 Insight with 140,000 miles and CVT:
https://www.autobidmaster.com/en/car...GE_PHOENIX_AZ/

Restored Salvage. I have not found out any information yet, Vehicle History does not show an accident, but how did the title get changed?

"Mechanical noise."

For all that I know, the one in Tucson had one of those!

It is a CVT, though, but better than nothing, right?

Right?!

Edit! The VIN is JHMZE14715S000198 if anyone wants to check that before I can. I could not find anything for free.

Trust me! I know nothing!

Navy Federal is supposed to give members up to ten free CarFaxes a month. You can open a savings account with just $5 if you qualify.

It seems that credit union has very mixed reviews. All that I can find out is that if you were a member when they announced it they would have e-mailed you.

I avoid CVTs, but there's a small but loyal following for them. I'd say 60mpg is a figure to shoot for in a CVT, whereas a 5MT could reasonably aim for 80mpg and have the same difficulty getting there. These CVTs occasionally strip their flywheel and can fail between 150k and 250k miles, but if that's fixed they can keep going for a lot longer. They're around 100lbs heavier than the manuals and lack lean burn, but again can still easily break 50's and even 60's average with a careful driver.

I would recommend against a high mileage CVT, but 140k is not so high if the fluid has been changed regularly (needs it every 30k) and if the owner did not beat on it.
