In the 4 months I've owned Baa:
After 11,527Km traveled, I've "saved" about 173 litres of fuel, worth around $250.
My only expense (so far) is a used vacuum gauge for $30.
No aero mods yet, just tyre pressures and careful driving.

So I'm $220 ahead.

What I spent on modding ?
Some tape I had laying about, and a Scangauge.
The station where I fill up the tyres charges for air - I guess that's cost me maybe 15 euro so far ?

I lost 2 17" tyres that were maybe halfway gone, when switching to LRR tyres on 16" rims (but the 17" wheels were replaced under warranty, with cash back !)

Everything else I've gotten (extra set of rims and LRR winter tyres, grille, ...) wasn't directly related to modding and is stored for later use.

Total cost for fixing up the freeby '86 Ford Tempo diesel.
Tow bill back home - $150
New exhaust - $200
Brakes - $100
Starter - $150
Glow plugs - $40
New Belts - $30
Battery - $30
Total - @ $700
Averaging over 50 mpg, priceless.
Was getting a best of 38 mpg in the Escort. I'm sure I could get $1200 out of the Tempo if I sold it. But I won't do that. Price of fuel isn't getting any cheaper.

I have more cost than return, but over time I'll be saving, big time since I havn't installed my coroplast fully yet.

10x 30x36 sheets of coroplast - $100
Scan Gauge 2 - $135 used from ebay
Cost of car to start with a better base line - $700 (and $500 in parts to repair)

Unmodded MPG: 32-34 highway @ 65-70mph (only 2 tanks worth)
Modded MPG: 40-50mpg trips, should average atleast 45mpg.

Fuel savings is around $100 on this car, or $144 if compaired to my last car (26mpg is about what I got average)
Total cost of material for modding car: $235

Net loss: $135 but getting lower all the time, should break even in 3k miles

After a belly pan, wheel skirts, whell covers, some sort of boat tail, etc.... my MPG should go up and making the savings jump quicker with no added cost.

Here is my estimations so far on the Lupo 3L:

New tyres 400$, would have needed change them anyway...
Some test wheels 50$
ABS plastic 70$
Glasfiber stuff 100€
Oils and lubricants 100$
led and ksenon lights 200$
Other minor mods: 150$

Total wasted at least: 1070$ and in own time easily over 200 hours

Driven 15192 miles, Savings about 240$ (15%)

Positive driving feelings priceless!

On my seat the same table would be totally different as looks were no consern.
Parts 400$
Time same 200 hours
Savings 1934.02$

So I am still on the savings side totally .
