Fuel injector modification?

Saw this on eBay, and wondered if there was anything to it. Supposedly this guy refurbishes and modifies fuel injectors for better economy.

Link to auction

Anyone heard of this?

While i dont know much about injectors, fluid dynamics states that a fluid of an equal volume and pressure forced through smaller orifices will create a finer spray.
just my $0.02

He really isnt making the mods. He is just buying injectors that are standard on all indirect injection vehicles today.

Interesting... so is it possible to source these myself? It's a little expensive for me to experiment with, but I'm sure my injectors are tired after 200k miles. =)

There are some aftermarket injectors for the jeep straight 6 that has a better flow pattern that does help with fuel mileage. I would like new injectors for my truck but at $65 each I think I will wait until they are a problem.

I have to point out though that depending on the port shape of the engine, a wider finer spray pattern is not always as good because more fuel will collect on the port walls.

You can pick up some from the junk yard. You would need to find out your flow rate and then the vehicles that have the desired injectors.

It is the ECU most important for FE. Injectors and all the sensors are part of it

I wouldn't attribute a lot of savings to these. I would really only consider it if you were going on a no-expense-barred-uber-sweet-super-fe build.

Since most of us are driving older vehicles, I'll ramble on in that direction.

As injectors get old, the get dirty, clogged up with the various stuff that's in gasoline. It alters the spray pattern and flow rates. The change in flow rates aren't always equal between the injectors. That means an imbalance charge between cylinders and a less efficient burn.

The closed loop system that uses an oxygen sensor for feedback only measures the total air fuel ratio. If one cylinder is +5% and another is -5%, the computer will never know.

I suspect that cleaning the stock fuel injectors would nearly identical results as buying these upgrades. Some shops keep a large inventory and will send back flow tested and matched injectors. Factory injectors can vary quite a bit, even when new.

I have looked at a few sites that do Fuel Injector cleaning.

WitchHunter Performance - Injector Cleaning & Flow Testing Services

The concept looks pretty basic, but has anyone actually used one of these services?
