How can anyone not hate tesla.
They are pioneers at selling a car and holding part of it hostage for a later ransom.

We have commercially available electric cars BECAUSE of Tesla.
Tesla has changed the world of automobiles.

I would credit government mandates and tax credits for the rise of commercially available EVs. If I was picking a Manufacturer and Car it would be Nissan and the Leaf. Nissan should be closing in on 350,000 Leaf sold worldwide.

And I believe that there were commercially profitable EVs back way before and inspite of Tesla. Can you say Detroit electric car company? I know one just down the street, still fully operational.
Ford was producing ev rangers from 1983 to about 1995.
IF and WHEN Elon gets profitable, we can discuss .

If you don't count nissan or Toyota or the lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide batteries that most electric vehicles, were invented by nissan.
Tesla wanted to invent their own proprietary version of the j1772, but they hadn't bothered to exist yet and decided to listen to reason and adopt j1772.
GM EV efforts almost seem like sabotage.

I wonder if battery health will be better on the software limited cars since it's not charging to "full"... or is it charging to full and not being allowed to drain to "empty"? Either way should help preserve battery health.
That said, I wonder if the range will hold up over time, with the software allowing more of the battery SoC to be unlocked as it wears out? Whereas a non-software locked battery will lose range over time, a software-locked battery could simply make a greater percentage of battery available over time to preserve the original range (60 kWh).
If the software preserves the range over time, then I would be inclined not to pay the extra amount to unlock the full range, and instead get the benefit later on.

Why? The Volt and Bolt are excellent, and as far as I know, the EV Spark was very good.

Some of us haven't forgotten What Killed The Electric Car.
Tesla may have issued an update that times out in 30 days or whatever.

It's pretty clear to me Elon is not trying to be profitable. He is gaming the stock market to build what HE wants, regardless. And willing to "bet it all" to do so.

GM tried to kill the electric car or at least delay it in the 1990s.
