As well as performance. The auto on the Cruze VCDi is nothing to write home about.

Had to drive one round the racetrack last year, playing shepherd to a bunch of newbies. The lag on downshifting in every corner was so bad that I had to enter corners as hot as possible and trailbrake, just to avoid the need to shift a gear lower for the exit. (I was pushing hard because I was trying to catch a wayward driver in a Volvo T4 )

And that's the point at where you start to curse the weight of that ironblock diesel...

Looking at Fuelly I see others with the same experience in the Kia-Hyundai cars. The wifes previous car, a Nissan Rogue, would easily beat the Kia Sorento in every comparison of mileage, even though the Rogue's highway rating was 5 MPG lower.

If I buy another Kia-Hyundai vehicle I will probably rent one and see how close it's actual mileage is compared to EPA ratings.

There are many complaints with kia/hyundai mileage. I've seen ads on this site for a law firm that is trying to put together a class action against them due to the abnormally high EPA ratings for what people are actually getting with their vehicles.

I rented a Kia Rio and got horrible mileage in Kennesaw GA last July, I had it for 3 weeks and put close to 1,300 miles on it. I averaged 32MPG.

I do hear the Elantra does better though.

For what it's worth, the Gen 1 Honda Insight gets 95mph on the highway at 55 mph, stock, with summer temps.

You can still get used ones.

Drove my girlfriend's Rio out to New York and got around 40mpg mostly 70mph.

Sure, but I've been checking on and off for them and have yet to see a manual that isn't listed thousands above blue book/edumunds/whatever.
