Wink I finally got an old VW Bug*

(*) And all I had to do was pile, dig & scrape snow for many hours...

Edit: posted some nicer pics...

Scale is 1:1. It looks kind of like a caricature of a Bug, but still I'm happy with how it turned out.

The neighbourhood loves it. I heard a LOT of stories about old Bugs from folks passing by while sculpting.

When I was a kid, it was my absolute favourite car. I've ridden in a couple (as a youngster), but have never driven one. One day.

I feel like I got punked.

I was excited to find out if was really old.

Not a bad likeness, did you scale up a die-cast model? I'd lean the windshield back a few degrees. How did you do the wheels.

Won't lie - I thought of you specifically when I posted the thread. I figured the Lounge location would be the tip-off it wasn't for real.

(Though one day, maybe??)

Yup, windshield and many other details aren't quite right, eh?

I found an image with plan/profile/front/back dimensions and worked off that. As you can see, it did not fully translate! The funny thing: it wasn't until I took and looked at the pics that I noticed a few other issues with it.

Anyway, it was fun to make. Will be fun to see what Mother Nature does with it this week.

I posted a few more betterer pics in post #1.

Oh, the wheels - I pressed a garbage can lid into the side to get my circle, and scooped/smoothed away.

One of the Mirage forum members has a '63 ... and lives about an hour or so away from me:

And now I have an invitation to drive one. I'll definitely be accepting the offer. Summer road trip!

That Nissan grille bar would look good on the Beetle. Why do they pose the cars with all four sun visors down?

I'm going to drive 15 minutes to visit my Superbeetle today. It's time to take the American flag decal out of the back window.

I could send you a casino bicycle ace of spades playing card to replace the decal. A proper blue back one no less.
