I want to test this in the Turtle!

https://autos.yahoo.com/news/achates...152844119.html

If they'd let me test this beast for them, I'd gut Turtle like a fish and drop that 1-cyl diesel in it! There's no way it'd be any slower than it is now, lol

Seconded.

It appears they're yet another group developing opposed-piston designs. I've seen a few. The one that sticks out in my mind the most is the Deltic that powered so many iconic British rail stock. They make a unique sound.

That Napier Deltic engine was interesting, but seems quite impractical. It does surprise me that it actually had a relative popularity for marine and railway applications.

OTOH the Achates engine actually seems quite practical and reasonable, and the strategic partnership with Fairbanks Morse is a good move to enhance the confidence in their business plan. I'd like to see a downsized 2-cyl version of their engine, that would likely fit like a glove into a Subaru.

But anyway, I still would prefer an engine with a single crankshaft such as the old Commer TS3, a.k.a. Commer Knocker.
