Update from the race course!
One of the new crew brought a laptop with a cell phone modem, and we've got one bar.
Quite the afternoon so far. Snagged and removed two lobster traps, wind all over the map. DFL off the start line, but we've managed to ghost past the schooner Virginia in a dying breeze.
Currently we're becalmed. Well, drifting at .2 knots.
I'm going to try uploading a pic if the connection doesn't die first.

Back in cell phone range...
Hey, it's Darin ... and Ivan (ForkenSwift co-conspirator) trimming sails at dawn this morning, trucking along around 9 knots:
... and the Pride of Baltimore II ahead of us last evening:
Currently we're making just over 8 knots approaching East Point, about to turn the corner back into the Northumberland Strait.

Well, we were literally clueless last night around 3AM. The sheets pulled the clue (corner) off the flying jib on a SW tack down the east end of the island. (The flying jib flies on the boat's most forward stay and it happens to be my favourite sail - I like the cut of this jib!)
It went up again this morning (handy to have a sailmaker on the crew!), but the bad news is we lost a good sail for a good chunk of the night in a dying wind and it really hurt our progress.
Currently (pun intended), we're between Cape Bear and Pictou Island, just coming around the corner.
We won't make the finish line before the official midnight race closing, but we'll keep sailing - the next tack will be favourable to go up the Strait towards Summerside.

Our position at the close of the race Sunday 0000 hours: 45 53.861 N 62 69.172 W
We're motorsailing toward Summerside, about 6 miles from Confederation Bridge.
