Insight into the Future

I thought I had a proper writeup in my thread, but it looks like I don't. The idea is simple though: Under the dash, you'll find a pushbutton switch on both the brake and clutch pedal brackets. You want to wire a button to each of these that allows you to complete the circuit without having to press the brake or clutch with your foot. You can take a piece of speaker wire and simply stuff it into the backside of the switch, or you can use a wire splice to splice into either side.

I eventually moved my buttons from the side of the steering column to the shifter, following Cowmeat's example. Daox can 3d-print you a shifter knob, if you'd like, and it comes with all of the buttons you need preinstalled. Just run a wire from each of them to the clutch button, brake button, and optionally, your kill switch.

I actually miss that 3-button shifter (although technically it's in my shed in a box). My car is almost too easy to hypermile in now, lol

That was coolest mod I ever installed. You can't beat a G1 Insight with that set-up for hypermiling.

We quit using the quick-connects after I put that first shift knob on Turtle, though. Eventually it started causing issues with the brake lights and assist, and we soldered the connections for the other two Insights.

My Insight is buried in snow between the garage and house. I tried shoveling it out but the snow is way to deep and heavy so I need to wait awhile before I get her out again.

My question is will starting it once a week and letting run for a half hour help keep the IMA happy???

My opinion, leave it off but put the 12v on a tender and grid charge it when the snow melts. It won't hurt the IMA to let the battery self-discharge.

I don't have a grid charger right now I really need to get one.lol

I do have it on a 12v tender charger though.
