Burt Rutan is an absolute aeronautical engineering genius.
It'll take a while before industry & society catch up with his concepts.
It seems that's the only thing holding back his unusual designs has been the acceptance from potential customers - or rather the lack thereof.

If someone ever wants to put a face on Thinking outside the box, it'll have to be Burt's mug.

To me, his BiPod is definitely one of his visually less pleasing creations.

Scaled composites already built the General Motors Ultralite Show Car - with a 420 lbs structure for a curbside weight of 1400 pounds ! 80 mpg on the EPA cycle

That was 20 years ago ... so old-EPA numbers, but still.

Just a great random car image thread......RUSSIAN.

Forgotten Teardrop: the Arrow Plane
Forgotten Teardrop: the Arrow Plane at Hemmings Blog: Classic and collectible cars and parts

Quote:
Like its successors, the Arrow Plane used quite a few Ford parts, including a Ford engine. Unlike its successors, the Arrow Plane used a simple few gauges and a Ford four-cylinder fitted with a Miller overhead-camshaft conversion (instead of a V-8). Voelpel specified that the engine be mounted in the rear of the car and drive the front wheels.

IA #14, December 1972-January 1973, was kind of a landmark issue in Hemmings history. Not only did we publish the Hoax!? article, but it was the first issue in which we mentioned the McQuay-Norrises – the six all-aluminum semi-teardrop-shaped vehicles built on Ford chassis that later became almost synonymous with Hemmings when Terry Ehrich bought one and displayed it out front of Hemmings HQ.

Also wanted to post this - the "other" Cobra Coupe

Shelby developed the Daytona Coupe at the same time AC developed the A98 Coupe based on the same engine and chassis. According to my latest Classic and Sportscar mag this was just as fast as the Daytona at the 1964 Le Mans until it crashed out due to a tyre letting go and it was wrecked. Its been rebuilt from parts.

It was one of 4 GTs that did a sub-4 minute lap and managed 185 MPH, on the M1 motorway...

What is aero idea behind the wheel arch eyebrows? Mid 50's era Mercedes sports cars like the 300SL had similar eyebrows.

Good question.

Maybe just a styling statement?

I realize this attached cartoon of a 911 is not the actual airflow, but imagine the wheel eyebrows on the Cobra here. Would the air coming off the wheels cling or be redirected in anyway?
